                                                                                            GENERAL MEETINGS

General Meetings are held at 9.30am on the 3rd Friday of each month in the “Newman Room” of the Geebung RSL Club, 323 Newman Road, Geebung, Qld., 4034.

At these General Meetings we have interesting Guest Speakers who cover a diverse range of subjects including financial matters and other topics which may affect the needs and well-being of our members.

As an independent body we have steamlined our procedures so that we have more time for content from our Guest Speakers, and as a member driven organisation, from our members.

There is, therefore, always time for members to raise issues and promote discussion.

Also, Morning Tea is available, during which time, members are able to get to know other members through informal discussion and social contact.

Visitors are always welcome at  all our meetings and attendees are also able to join us for lunch at the Club after the meeting has concluded.

ADVOCACY

Brisbane North Retirees maintains ongoing participation in the interests of retirees to Governments, whether State, Federal, or Local, and also to political parties of all persuasions through our Advocacy Group.

The Advocacy Group has, for example, sought the views of members before preparing the list of issues which are currently being pursued including the following:-

>  Requiring the Seniors Card operate to the rules of the state in which the Senior is Travelling.

>  Requesting that the Federal Government reintroduce legislation which previously applied to Aged Care Facilities whereby the ratio of staff to the total number of  Residents and the ratio of Qualified Nurses to the total number of residents was set and mandated to apply at all times to each of  these situations.

There are many more items on the current list, so plenty of issues to work on.
